NYFAA appraisals follow the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) format and the Code of Ethics required by all professional appraisal societies, and are accepted and highly regarded by insurance companies, courts of law, and government agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service. Each article is carefully examined on premises, thoroughly researched, catalogued and illustrated in accordance with the Object ID standards of the Getty Research Institute and the Art Loss Registry.

Our team of Senior Appraisers, each uniquely qualified by virtue of their education, experience and professional accomplishments, all hold memberships in the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), or the International Society of Appraisers (ISA).

Our appraisers follow a rigorous program of professional involvement, staying attuned to changes in the art market, sales at regional and international auctions and galleries, and new legislation involving the arts. NYFAA maintains a cutting edge library of electronic and printed resources including: fine and decorative art databases of over 3.5 million auction results covering more than 180,000 international artists and designers and dating back to 1985; books, periodicals, catalogues and other materials relating to works of fine and decorative art, collections, exhibitions, sales, and galleries; important catalogue raisonnés and other research tools to assist in the identification of artists, attributions, iconography, technical analyses and location of works of art; as well as an extensive collection of art history, biography and theory and methodology resources. Through our associations with museums, auction houses, libraries, artist’s estates, definitive experts, and institutions, a wide variety of archival and specialized materials are available to us as required for research projects and appraisals.
